Using VSSL with your Mac

January 28, 2018

With VSSL, it is easy to listen to music on your in-ceiling speakers. You can listen via a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer! This post will cover listening specifically from a Mac.
On a Mac, there are several ways to listen. Through Airplay audio mirroring, using Chromecast in Google Chrome browser, iTunes, or from the desktop music app.

Airplay Audio Mirroring

  1. Make sure you have correct settings enabled. Open System Preferences -> Sound -> Output tab. Make sure ‘Show volume in menu bar’ is selected.

2. Press the ‘alt’ or ‘option’ key while clicking on the speaker icon

3. Select the VSSL zone and control the volume with the volume up and down keys

Chromecast on Google Chrome

You can listen to any audio to a VSSL zone straight from your Chrome web browser. For example, you can go to Pandora.com start music, then play to your speakers. The same goes for YouTube content or anything from your favorite news station.

You can connect your iTunes music straight from your Mac to a VSSL zone.

Desktop Music App

Depending on your music service, they may have a desktop app. You can open this desktop app and use Airplay audio mirroring (as described above) or a built-in streaming service. Let’s look at Spotify.

The Spotify desktop app has a Spotify Connect built-in*. You can open the desktop app, click on the device icon, then select a VSSL zone.

*Note: depending on the service, some of these built-in features may require a subscription. You can always use Airplay audio mirroring.
